Mankind is no longer at the top of the food chain.
The Sixth Extinction is an apocalyptic tale about a pandemic that sweeps the globe, decimating the human race, leaving humanity struggling to survive. Within three weeks, everything has changed. Social structure has collapsed as the government locks itself away with a select portion of its vast army in deep bunkers, leaving the civilians to their own fate and the infected that stalk the streets.
Alex, Troy, Tierra and her son, Naomi, and the two King brothers are trying to find somewhere safe to survive, but people are dying at every turn, and there are now only seven of them left. They narrowly escape an ambush by Stitt, and make their way to a gas-station next to a river swollen by a torrential storm. Exhausted, hungry, and in shock at losing so many of their companions, they try to settle for the night, only to be attacked by a horde of infected that pours across the fields surrounding them. However, it appears the creatures were drawn by something else.
Out of the darkness emerge other uninfected humans. They come to the rescue, fighting like people possessed. They travel the river in an old fishing boat, looking for supplies and other survivors. Also, they are in possession of a secret that could save them all.
Meanwhile, Doctor Bachman, and the two lab assistants, Emma and Peter make their way to the supercomputer in Zone 12, while keeping their distance from the tentacled creatures and pods that stalk the bunker. They plan on using a fail-safe system called The Furnace to wipe the creatures out. But first, they have to navigate through the sewers to get there, and while doing so they come face-to-face with their worst nightmare. Have they got what it takes to reach the supercomputer in time, before six new strains of the infection spreads into the atmosphere?

Still a good series. I'm curious how Frank will come through this, and I'm loving the Smokie character. I know she's a fan along with others who were written into the story, but I hope her character stays around awhile! Yep, I'd recommend this story and author.Product details

It was with eager anticipation that I awaited the release of Part 6 in this totally gripping and fun 'Extinction' series by Glen Johnson. Once again he never fails to disappoint, as we continue the journey with our ragtag group of survivors. Of course it wouldn't be 'Glen' if we didn't lose people along the way, and no 'spoiler's but there is a scene in this book where I yelled 'I knew it - I knew something wasn't right' and you'll know it when you get to it.
So, after the previous battles we're left with Alex, Troy, Tierra and her son, Naomi, and the two King brothers and believe me Naomi is just as annoying as hell, and I can't wait to see what's in store for her. ) After being 'rescued' by Smokie and her battle ready group, they make their way to a boat, and onwards to what is hopefully a place of safety (at least for a while) - an ISLAND. Safe right?? Don't forget this is Glen we're talking about - nothing is ever easy for our group of fighters.
We're also left with Doctor Bachman, and the two lab assistants, Emma and Peter who are trying to make their way to a supercomputer while trying to avoid the decidedly creepy tentacles and pods, and failing dismally. Sufficed to say in that regards they have to make a slight change of plan along the way, which involves of all things a SUBMARINE. In a bunker you say? Believe me, Glen's imagination has no boundaries when it comes to what you can find and where.
There is of course the obligatory decapitations and zombie battles, but not so much in this particular book - we're concentrating this time on the guys and guys who are fighting their way to some sort of freedom, somewhere to breathe and relax, but will they ever find it is the question?
Totally enjoyable, and as always I hate it when I get to the end and find there are no more pages to turn. If you're reading this review then you've hopefully already read the other 5 books in this series - so you'd be daft to miss out and not get this one too...... I'm sure you want to smack Naomi a few times too right? lol
You must start w/the books set in England. Great characters & a twist on how the apocalypse starts.
